The ideal day hike to visit the Langtang Himalayan range and take in the scenery near Kathmandu is the Shivapuri Day Hike. The Shivapuri National Park, one of Kathmandu’s water resources, is also home to hundreds of species of flora and wildlife, making it a haven for anyone who enjoy watching birds. After Fulchowki, Shivapuri is the highest hill station in the Kathmandu valley. The hill’s elevation and geographic location make it the ideal vantage point from which to view the Langtang Himalayan range. The traveler would adore going there since the Langtang Himalayan range is well seen from here. If the day is exceptionally clear, mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Lirung, Dorji Lhakpa, and many more countless peaks are well seen from here. Due to the accent of the journey and the numerous steps that must be climbed to reach the summit of Shivpuri, it is a difficult walk. The hike begins in Muhanpani, which is close to the Budhanilkantha Temple, and continues down the road until it reaches Nagi Gompa, which is home to hundreds of monks who live and study there. Baghdwar is a location that can be found on the route to Shivaapuri Peaks. This is where the holy river Bagmati, which flows close to Pashupatinath, gets its name. Mt. Ganesh Himal, Mt. Langtang Lirung, Mt. Langtang Ri, Ganjala Peak, Dorje Lakpa, and numerous other peaks can all be seen from the summit of Shivapuri in addition to Mt. Gaurishanker.
Take a 30-minute drive from Kathmandu to Muhan Pokhari. You enter the Shivapuri watershed and wildlife region after completing the requirements at the entrance gate. Starting at the southernmost point of the region where the army checkpoint is situated, you begin your journey. Within an hour and a half, the track ascends to Nangi Gompa over a rocky but passable road that passes between cherry and pine trees. A nunnery monastery is situated nearby.
After the monastery, the walk continues for another three hours steeply upward through woods of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo. From here, one may see the splendor of the snow-capped Himalayan mountains, including Dorji Lhakpa, Langtang-Lirung, and Ganesh Himal. Before starting your drive back to Kathmandu, you finally take a detour downhill that takes about two and a half hours to reach Budhanilkantha.
